Satyrasis/...Of The Dead/Seventh Rule Records/2015 CD review

Satyrasis  are  a  band  from  Michigan  that  plays  a  mixture  of   progressive,  heavy,  technical,  melodic  death,  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "...Of  The  Dead"  which  was  released  by  Seventh  Rule  Records.

An  atmospheric  sound  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  riffs  start  off  the  album  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  continue  in  that  tradition  and  the music  also  brings  in  elements  of  progressive  rock  and  after  awhile  more  elements  of  thrash  metal  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

When  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  very  aggressive  sounding  thrash  style  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  at  time s the  music  can  be  very  symphonic  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  the  riffs  start  incorporating  more  tech  and  melodic  death  metal  elements.

Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  clean  playing  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  progressive  rock  feeling  and  as  the  album  progresses  spoken  word  parts  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  on  some  of  the  songs  the  thrash  style  vocals  also  mix  a  bit  of  melody  in  with  the  aggression.and  they  also  do  a  cover  of  Rush's  "Circumstance"  that  also  has  more  of  a  punk  or  hardcore  edge  than  the  original  version  before  closing  the  album  with  2  of  their  own  tracks.

Satyrasis  takes  a  very  extreme  and  progressive  style  of  thrash  metal  and  mixes  in  elements  of  the  more  technical  and  melodic  sides  of  death  metal  and  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  politics  and  horror.

In  my  opinion  Satyrasis  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of   progressive,  heavy,  technical,  melodic  death,  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Foot  In  Each  Grave"  "The  Imp  Of  The  Perverse"  "Circumstances"  and  "In  Ruins".  8  out  of  10.

At  time s the  music  has  a  slam  death  metal  feeling  and  the  growls  can  be  very  guttural  at  times  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  incorporating  more  old  school  grindcore  elements  and  some  of  the  songs  also  use  a  small  amount  of  guitar  solos  and  leads  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  cover  of  Agrophobic  Nosebleed's  "Vexed".

Nervous  Impulse  takes  a  very  guttural,  slamming  and  brutal  style  of  death  metal  and  mixes  it  with  grindcore  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  th e production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  hateful  themes.

A  dark  sounding  synth  starts  off  the  album  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  going  for  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  old  school  thrash  metal  sound  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  the  screams  that  the  band  uses  give  the  music  more  of  an  early  death  metal  edge  while  the  music  has  more  of  a  modern  production.

Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music  they  remain  true  to  an  old  school  thrash  metal  direction  and  after  awhile  growls  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  bringing  in  elements  of  90's  melodic  death  metal   and  a  few  of  the  later  tracks  also  being  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

A  very  symphonic  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  the  music  starts  mixing  in  a  heavier  sound  with  the  symphonic  elements  along  with  some  operatic  female  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem  along  with  some  growls  and  screams  that  add  in  a  death  metal influence  to  the  bands  musical  style.

Carbonized  where  a  band  from  Sweden  that  played  death  metal  with  elements  of  progressive  music  and grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1991  album  "For  The  Security"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  April  by  Vic  Records.

A  very  dark  and  heavy  death  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  growls  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  music  also  has  a  very  raw  feeling  to  the  songs  and  after  awhile  the  music  gets  more  brutal  with  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  being  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  a  touch  of  grindcore.

Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  songs  also  start  adding  in  more  elements  of  progressive  music  along  with  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  being  utilized  at  times  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  anywhere  on  the  recording.

Carbonized  had  a  different  approach  to  death  metal  than  most  of  their  counterparts  in  Sweden  back  in  the  day  and  they  also  mixed  in  a  lot  of  progressive  and  grindcore  elements  which  also  gave  the  music  more  of  an  original  sound,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  the  era  it  was  recorded  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  abstract  and  occult  themes.

In  my  opinion  Carbonized  where  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  metal,  progressive  music  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hypnotic  Aim"  "Syndrome"  "Purified"  and  "Monument".  8  out  of  10.

Mordenial/Where The Angels Fall/Vic Records/2015 CD Review

Mordenial  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  melodic  style  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Where  The Angels  Fall"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Vic  Records.

Melodic  guitar  leads  which  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  start  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  while  the  vocals  are  high  pitched  death  metal  screams  and  the  songs  stick  to  mostly  a  mid  paced  direction  while  some  fast  parts  are  used  at  times.

At  times  you  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  thrash  and  traditional  metal  in  the  bands  musical  style  while  there  approach  to  melodic  death  metal  seems  to  be  more  closer  to  the  90's  era  of  this  genre  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  demonstrate  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  heavy  direction  from  beginning  to  end  of  the  recording  except  for  the  last  track  where they  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.

Mordenial  plays a  style  of  melodic  death  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  and  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  influences  and  talented  guitar  leads,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.
