Kraanium Interview

Interview was answered by the singer Martin Funderud

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Planning stuff for the USA tour and waiting for the album to get released. Also working on printing merch for the tour and
We are very exited to go to the USA and see what kind of response we will get there.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the newer album and how it differs from previous releases?
I think we have progressed and matured alot when it comes to the song writing on this album, still has the mix of fast and slamming riffs
but we have also tried to add some more traditional death metal riffing. Vocals are alot different form the previous full lenghts as well.
I feel i now have managed to find the style i wanna proceed on doing, vocal wise that is.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer release?
Pretty much the same as before. Dealing with topics such as:
-Torture
-Rape
-Necrophilia
-Coprophilia
-Cannibalism
Mostly what you can expect from the bands in this genre. I work alot with thw writing of my lyrics, and even re-write them multiple times to
get it as good as possible.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Not really too much thought put behind the name. But i seem to remember, we just had a brain storm over names and cranium came up. But we wanted to put our own touch to it
so thats why we kinda re-wrote it a bit and ended up with KRAANIUM. Just wanted a simple and easy to remember name, really!

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
I would say Death feast open air in Germany 2012 & Mountains of death in Switzerland 2009. And also did a show in Moscow at Coyote brutal fest last
year that was pretty awesome! Well on stage we just share our brutality thats pretty much it, nothing fancy really! Just let the music do the talking.

6. What are the touring plans for the new release?
So far we only have one tour planned, the Comatour 2012 Usa tour! 3 weeks and 16 shows. with Atrocious abnormality and Coathanger abortion, cant wait!
Check www.comatosemusic.com for more details.
Might try and do a release party here in Oslo in May as well, if we get the cds in time.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal?
Its been pretty damn overwhelming i must say! Im really honored of all the nice feedback and awesome support people are giving us around the globe!
Kinda hard for me to realise this, since i still feel we are just a small band outta Norway, haha!

8. Are there any other side projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?
Yeah we all have other side projects in fact!
Me and my brother (Mats) are in Dragging entrails.A european/american slam project with Kraanium/Devour the unborn & Expurgate members.
Mitch is in Engorgement, which also are on Comatose music.
Vidar is in a black metal band called Koldbrann.
And Ian is joining a band shortly, but i cant remember their name at this point.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Well i think we will try and keep the direction we are in on this latest release, dont really have plans to progress too much. Wanna stay as true as we
can to the slamming death metal style!

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Abominable putridity, devourment, condemned, cephalotripsy, dying fetus, cannibal corpse. But we try our best to do our own thing tho!
Listening alot to underground brutal acts like SICK, Secreted entity, Pighead, 7h target, Engorgement, Begging for incest. But also been blasting the new Cannibal corpse album alot and
i really dig the latest Condemned album as well.

11. How would you describe the death metal scene in your home country of Norway?
Its not too big! We have some bands tho, but Kraanium is the only band playing the slamming death metal style!
Bands worth checking out: The sickening, Grotesque hysterectomy, Blood red throne, Dawn of retaliation.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Other than music our interests are airsoft, tattooes, gaming, graffiti, drinking, women...the usual, hehe!

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thanks for supporting Kraanium by doing this interview!

Never To Arise Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
Michael Kilborn: We’re a two man death metal band based out of Pinellas County Florida.  Gordon and I have been friends for 12 years.
We met through a mutual friend who we have both played in bands with.

Gordon Denhart: Never To Arise actually started back in late 2005 as a home studio project. It was originally a one man operation at the start,
then I asked Michael to play bass and help mix it. It evolved into a proper 2 man band when I asked him to contribute a guitar solo,
which turned out so well that he ended up doing half the solos on the CD. Thanks to the internet,we were able to get the demo tracks out there
and slowly but surely we are at the point where our debut CD is about to be released on badGod Music.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
Gordon: I would say a more classic style of death metal with other elements thrown into the mix.
Michael:Yes,death metal with hints of classic thrash and speed

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Michael: I’ll let Gordon describe since he is the principal lyricist
Gordon: Basically it pretty much revolves around a fictional serial killer...a med school dropout who hates women.
Only this killer doesn't have a single M.O.,he likes to get a bit creative at times.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Michael: Being a death metal band, the subject matter would obviously be about death.  Therefore, the victims in our songs are doomed never to arise
Gordon:  No zombie stories for us.I guess you could say we are a very anti-zombie band    hahaha

5. Has the band been able to play it live yet, if so what are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
Gordon: We have yet to play live, and to be honest it is not a great concern at this time.
Michael: We are currently a studio band and plan on staying one in the future unless circumstances necessitate otherwise

6. Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up or do you choose to remain a duo?
Michael: We would prefer remaining a duo unless sometimes in the future, we would choose to tour
Gordon: I prefer just the two of us......maybe down the road if this thing works out well I could possibly see adding a drummer.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal?
Michael: Overwhelmingly positive
Gordon: Yes it really has been.I am sure there are certain people out there who may think we aren't quite brutal enough or whatever,
but we don't hear any insults.

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?
Gordon: Well,we each have other projects planned, but Never To Arise is a band that is not going away.
Michael: I am currently in another band that plays out live and am in the works of a couple of other original projects.
Gordon: Yeah, Michael is a very busy guy.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Michael: We will continue in a similar vein from the first album.
Gordon: The songs for a second CD have already been written, and it's not a drastic change.
If anything, overall the songs will be shorter with more riffs per song. And Michael is basically gonna take over as the main lead guitaist.
Lyrically, I don't plan on "maturing" or anything. They call it "Death Metal" for a reason..

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Gordon: As far as influences, I don't count anything out. From classic death metal to bands like Coroner and Voivod in their technical period.
Even some of the really brutal stuff from the last 10 years, there can be something to be learned from.
I listen to a lot of different styles of metal, my playlist changes on a daily basis.Plus there are a lot of great underground death/thrash bands
working on making a name for themselves just like we are that I enjoy listening to: Desoulment,Iniquitous,Mass Murder Frenzy,Awoken By Death...just to name a few.

Michael: My early guitar influences are John McLaughlin, Michael Schenker and Eddie Van Halen.   Current guitarists I’m listening to are Chris Broderick and Michael Romeo.  The bands I’ve been listening to have been Opeth, Symphony X and Gorguts

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Gordon: Not a whole lot.I do spend a lot of time playing the online game Mafia Wars though. And I am a big football and hockey fan.
Michael: I am a fan of all four of the major American sports (baseball, football, basketball and hockey) and especially enjoy attending American football and hockey games.  During American football season, I enjoy spending Sunday afternoons with my friends including Gordon watching them on television.   I also enjoy a good Imperial Stout every now and then.
Gordon: Hahaha! More now than then! He likes his Jager too

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Gordon: Well first off, thanks for talking with us! For a small band like us this really helps get the word out. And thanks to you in general for supporting
the scene...we are all in this together. You don't find that kind of bond or kinship with other forms of music. That's what makes Metal so special.
People are truly passionate about it.
Michael: We definitely thank you for the opportunity of participating in this interview, and I hope those who have a chance to hear us enjoy our music

Septekh Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
The four of us came together in late 2008. The style and identity of the band manifested themselves quite quickly.

Apparently those that have gone out in search of that style have ended up knee deep somewhere in the sludgy murky marshes where the brown and black waters of thrash and death metal boil. Over this basic goo lays a thick fog of punk with a small tint of rock in it. And the air is thin and hazy, with a myriad of scorched ash leafs swirling around, leaving those who breathe it with a toxic blackened taste that cannot be washed away… Perhaps.  Or maybe it’s easier to say it like this: if you took Black Sabbath, put them on a boat in a lake of fire and forced them to play Slayer songs it would sound like Septekh… Maybe.  I really don’t know!

This mix of rather punky metal (see, it wasn’t so hard) is what we try to package and present as really strong songs. And that’s what we have been doing from the very start; trying our best to craft really good tunes.

Nowadays we mostly exist out on an island just off the east coast. That’s where we’ve got our place, Studio 508. A home located in the midst of rural surroundings and the setting for our creative endeavours. We have recorded two Ep´s (one which is "The Seth Avalanche released via Abyss Records) and are entering the studio to record a full length this summer.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
Organic, harsh, raw and powerful. It´s a mix of the usual suspects; early Swedish and Norwegian bands tainted by... Something. We are not too keen on overdubs, triggering and those kind of things. We want to keep the live feeling and keep it as simple as possible.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
We try to keep our lyrics as condensed as possible. Exploring more generalized human
qualities; sex, power, violence, language, death. The usual stuff I suppose, in some respect.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band’s name?

Septekh is another name for Seth, Setek, Suetekh, Suty, Setekh, found in an old book that
belonged to our base player George-Patrick's grandma. Coming to think of it there are a couple of pretty weird things in his family history... Anyway. Being who he was in the Egyptian pantheon we thought him to be a fitting figurehead for what we wanted to do musically, the perpetual dark brother of any ruling deity. Besides there are not that many metal bands named "Septekh" around is
there?

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you
describe your stage performance?
Well one of our best was as an opening act for a rather arrogant headliner. We gave
everything and so did the bat shit crazy crowd. People would not let us stop playing! Even
people who were there for the other band just lost themselves and went home after our show,
not staying for the act they were there to see initially. Sweet revenge! A magical moment indeed.

We just go at it with full force, give everything we got and simply try to destroy you. Our
stage performance is us performing our music. Our music is very honest and we try to reflect
that by just attuning to the feel and try to communicate it. So there's really no over-dramatic
theatrics or anything like that, apart from some unintentional dancing by David during a
couple of his guitar solos. That said we do have plans for a more visual show in the future...

It´s not what you think. We´re talking morbid cabaret death dancers, full regalia and a venue
from the 19th century!

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
A couple of one-off shows in Sweden. Possibly Copenhagen. We would love to do a more
extensive tour. Live is when our songs shine the brightest and what they are written for in the
first place.

7. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by fans of death and thrash metal?

So far so good. The response has been very positive but we haven't really had any "real"
release until now with this record, so we'll see.

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?
Aside from a more rock oriented band (think ZZ Top on bad drugs) that, thankfully, only
rears its ugly head during extremely drunk jam sessions Septekh is each member´s sole and
single focus. No other projects or solo careers for us!

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
First of all I want to point out that "The Seth Avalanche" was recorded in June 2009. Almost
three years ago. So we have had some time to grow as a band and fortunately we have used
that time write more music. There is another EP ready for release and right now we are
preparing to go into the studio this summer to record a full length album. The next EP (titled
"Apollonian Eyes") is style-wise like a pit stop between the early material and the new stuff.

There will still be strong songs. For us it´s all about the songs; how the riffs fit together, the
groove and the mood and how they build each track. With the new material we are going a
step further in all directions so the fast songs are faster and the slower songs slower and
overall there is more diversity. There will still be a couple of all out neck-whipping, thrashy
Motorhead tunes. The one thing you could say about the general direction is that it´s darker
than before. And more relentless und serious. The full length will simply carry more weight if you understand what I mean.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are
you listening to nowadays?
We have to acknowledge Death Breath because it was a show of theirs that sparked the desire
to start the band. Other than that it´s pretty obvious that through the years members of
Septekh have come across and enjoyed the music of punk/metal/rock/etc. acts such as:
Exploited, Misfits, Turbonegro. Scandinavian bands of the nineties (and some still going
strong today) such as Darkthrone, Entombed, DHG, Emperor, Satyricon, The Crown. We find things to be
inspired by in different types of music and artists. Whether it is the musical mind of Mark
Knopfler or anything where Frost unleashes his elegant devastation.

The bottom line is that we enjoy GOOD music and that can really be anything. This is the
style that we play and it´s the only thing we can do that feels natural to us. But that does not
mean that we only listen to similar styles of music. In finding new inspiration, throughout the
band we promote an eclectic taste.

As for what currently abuses our ears our drummer Staffan, a person of the obsessive kind, has been blasting the latest "Aura Noir" album for almost a month now and for the last week also a track called "Nightcall". Highly recommended! I think Nils is currently running on a mix of Kvelertak and Feists new album.

11. Does Occultism play any role in the music?
Depends on how you mean. The lyrics can sometimes veer into that territory and be about
those kind of topics I guess. But it´s not like we practice magic or have rituals or anything like
that.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
What do you mean?!?! Haha

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Not really. Thanks…

Bloodsoaked Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the project these days?
I have recently added a new “live” guitarist/vocalist to the live show, his name is Joe Darling from the band Malebolgia (also on Comatose Music).  Things have been going great with Joe and we are getting ready to travel to Portugal in a few weeks for the SWR Metal Fest.  Besides that I have been keeping busy trying to book shows/festivals/mini tours as well as still promote the new album.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album that has been out for the last year and how it differs from the older material?
The overall feel to Bloodsoaked’s music is still the same, Old-School Death Metal, nothing very technical, just solid Death Metal.  The song writing has gotten better and better with each album and I used a different vocal style on the new album as well.  I didn’t want to do the “normal” Death Metal vocals so I changed them to a mix of John Tardy (Obituary), Chuck (Death) and Martin van Drunen (Pestilence), mix them all together and that is the vocal style I was going for.  I am more than happy with the results.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
The same kind of topics I always cover (Anti-Religion, Gore and Depression), more or less the traditional Death Metal lyrics.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Well, I started a underground promotion web site in the mid 90’s called “Bloodsoaked Promotions”, that slowly turned into a record label “Bloodsoaked Records”.  Both of them ended around 2004 and then when I stated this band in 2006 “Bloodsoaked” seemed to be the perfect fit.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
The first New England Death Fest was great, Bogota Colombia, India and Venezuela were probably my best shows to date.  South America seems to have the craziest Metal fans in the world. Since its been only me up till now I try to give it my all when on stage and make the people feel like they are watching a full band.

6. I have noticed that you play the music live solo, how would you compare that to working with a full band and have you thought of using other members for live performances?
Playing alone is great but also has its drawbacks, you never get that “band” experience when it’s just you and it’s a bit harder to win over a audience that has never seen a one-man band. The good thing is you only need to worry about yourself and the drum machine.  I have recently added a second guitarist/vocalist to the live set and I think this will add a lot more to the live sound and overall stage performance.

7. I remember in the early 200's I saw some of your contributions to SOD magazine, are you still involved with any other zines?
Nothing at this time.

8. How has the feedback been to your newer material by fans of brutal death metal?
The reviews have been great and the fans are digging it as well, some still like the old vocal style a bit more than the new ones but you can’t please everyone.  The album continues to sell well and I am always receiving emails from new fans saying how much they like the new album.

9. Are there any others projects besides this band or is this a full time project?
Bloodsoaked is the only band I am involved in.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Future release should still to the same basic principles that I began with in 2006, simple, straight forward Death Metal, nothing more, nothing less. No need to add a lot of this or that, Bloodsoaked was built off the basics of bands like Obituary, Death, Deicide, Vader, Malevolent Creation and I will still to that process.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
All the old school bands Obituary, Death, Deicide, Vader, Malevolent Creation. Bands that were brutal and write good songs, it wasn’t about how fast they could play is was about the songs, old school Death Metal still rules! I am always looking for new stuff to listen to, I am digging Pathology, Priapus, Flesh Hoarder, Abominable Putridity, Blasphemer, Abnormality, Misery Index, Human Infection and a ton more.

12.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Modern Warfare 3, Porn and Watching TV.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thanks a ton for taking the time and check out Bloodsoaked, I appreciate the support.
