Devangelic are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very brutal, gore and blasphemous orientated form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Phlegeron" which will be released in September by Comatose Music.
Dark soundscapes start off the album along with some heavier riffing a few seconds alter which also uses a great amount of dark sounding melodies while all of the musical instruments sound very powerful and after awhile deep yet guttural death metal growls start to make their presence known.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music is very heavily influenced by the American east coast side of the genre along with some songs also mixing in the atmosphere of a horror movie and none of the songs ever use any guitar solos or leads.
Devangelic creates another recording that remains true to the brutal and blasphemous style of death metal from previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and blasphemous themes along with some reference's to Dante's Inferno.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Devangelic and if you are a fan of brutal death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mutilation Above Salvation" "Malus Invictis" "Manifestation Of Agony" and "Asphyxiation Upon Phlegethon". 8 out of 10.
