Grimus are a band from New Jersey that plays a brutal form of East Coast Style death metal and this is a review of their 2010 ep "Gutter Earth".
Drums range from slow, midpaced to fast with a great amount of brutal blast beats, while the bass playing is kind of mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to midpaced mosh style death metal riffing with some faster riffing mixed in as well, while the lead guitars are very chaotic sounding death metal guitar solos that also utilize alot of skill.
Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls with some high pitched screams thrown in at times, while the lyrics cover hateful themes, as for the production it has a very heavy and professional feel to it.
In my opinion grimus are a very good death metal band, and if you are looking for death metal that can create a brutal mosh pit you should check out this band. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Decimation" and "The Situation". RECEMMONDED BUY.
This is a zine dedicated death/grind, deathcore, grindcore, melodic death metal and death metal with a blackended edge for more info contact hatredmeanswar@yahoo.com, check out the new zine http://ExtremeMetalZine.blogspot.com

Killing Addiction/Omega Factor/JL America Records/1993 CD Review
Killing Addiction where a death metal band from Ocala, Florida that had a slight grind/death influence and this is a review of their 1993 album "Omega Factor" which was released by JL America Records.
Drums are a mixture of slow, midpaced and fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the bass playing is all rhythm bass that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars are mostly simple sounding death metal riffs that range from being slow to fast with some thrash influences, while the lead guitars have a very technical sound to the guitar solos mixed with with alot of the standard death metal of that time period this album was recorded.
Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls which are kind of mixed down low in the mix with some high pitched screams being used at times, while the lyrics are very philosophical mixed in with some nature, historical and everyday themes, as for the production on this recording which was recorded at Mirror Image Studios in Gainesville, Florida during March of 1992 has a very raw and primitive sound.
In my opinion Killing Addiction where a good band and while they where a bit more basic and simple than alot of the more known death metal bands of the time they still had good music, and if you are a fan of the more simple sounding classic death metal you should check this album out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Omega Factor" "dehumanized" and "Impaled". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Fear Factory/Mechanize/Candlelight Records/2010 CD Review
Fear Factory are a bsnd that has been around for a long time that is very well known and one of the pioneering bands for industrial death/thrash and this is a review of their 2010 album "Mechanize" which was released by Candlelight Records.
Drums are mostly midpaced drumming with some fast playing that does not go that much into blast beats at all except for a few ocassions, while the keyboards are very atmospheric sounding with alot of industrial samples, as for the bass playing it has a very powerful sound that dominates on alot of songs.
Rhythm guitars range from midpaced to fast death/thrash style of riffing with some more mainstream metal elements added to the riffing while the leade guitars are very distorted and melodic sounding guitar solos.
Vocals are mostly death/thrash style of growls and yells with alot of clean singing being thrown in, while the lyrics cover technology, anti-rligion, hate, society and sci-fi, as for the production it sounds very professional and all of the instruments have a very good sound to them.
In my opinion this is a good album from Fear Factory and while I have not heard or bought an album from this band since the 90's it seems like a return to form since other people have told me that there last few albums where mainstream sounding, if you are a fan of Fear Factory you should not be dissapointed. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mechanize" "Fear Campaign" "Controlled Demolition" and "Final Exit". RECOMMENDED BUY.
