Descend Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
Since the actual recording process we were actually still hard at work. We were working on the mixing, mastering, artwork, and everything else wrapped up in this production. We did a few gigs here and there but I think we took a good step back and just kind of took a small vacation. Had to recharge. Now we're back and ready to pick up where we left off.

2.You put out a new album in January, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction it has taken and also how does it differ from your past recordings?
I think, this our darkest endeavor. There's so many different feelings being conveyed on this record. The musical direction in comparison to our first record "Through The Eyes of The Burdened is, a much more cohesive, more thought out, and simply put a much more heavier record. We love our first record and this writing process was just simply writing stuff we enjoy.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
Loss, depravity, confusion, to name a few. I don't write the lyrics in the band, Nima writes more or less what he's feeling or what's going through his head at the time.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Descend'?
Andreas started the band back in 2003. He thought the name sounded cool so it has been Descend ever since!

5.What are some of the best shows and tours that the band has been a part of and also how would you describe your stage performance?
I think the best gig we had was our release gig for Wither. Friends, Family, and Fans. It was a great time.

6.What are the touring plans for the new album?
The record has just come out. We are of course ready for anything now. We are planning and looking into booking gigs. Would be great to get over to North America. We had a blast in Canada, but I think Europe would be the best start for us. Who knows maybe hop on a tour with some more established acts and promote the record. We'll see what happens...

7.The new album came out on Inverse Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Inverse is any indie label based out of Finland, run by a really nice and helpful guy named Joni. They support up and coming bands and have some great ones on their label. We have artistic freedom and the label helps in any way they can really. For those interested they can check outwww.inverse.fi and see what they're all about.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of death metal?
It's been great! The album has been getting great feedback and we, in the band, are actually really taken back by it. It feels good to release something that we've enjoyed writing and that it's appreciated by so many people in so many different countries.

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Not sure really. We will see when we get there! Once the next record is in its infancy and being written we'll let you know what we are coming up with.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I can't speak for everyone in the band, I'm listening to basically everything from Death Metal to 70's prog.

11.Do you have any non musical interests?
Yes we do.

12.Before we wrap up this interview do you have any final words or thoughts?
Listen to Wither, Write us on our facebook (www.facebook.com/descendofficial) and let us know what you think. Hope we can get out and see everyone sooner rather than later. Stay brutal!
