Monolyth are a band from Portugal that plays a mixture of modern thrash and melodic death metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Origin".
A very modern, melodic and heavy sound starts off the album and a few seconds alter death metal growls and screams are added into the music along with the vocals also having a groove metal edge to them a t times and you can hear a great amount of prog metal in the bands musical style and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
When solos and leads are added into the music they contribute to the melodic side of the bands musical style which they also bring out in the riffs as well and on some of the tracks clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording along with some clean singing being used at times and as the album progresses the band starts incorporating more elements of thrash metal as well as sticking to mostly a slow to mid paced direction throughout the recording while they also use a small amount of blast beats at times.
Monolyth takes a very modern day form of thrash and combines it with prog metal and melodic death to create a sound that is very heavy yet diverse, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover fantasy, life and mind themes.
In my opinion Monolyth are a very great sounding mixture of modern thrash, prog and melodic death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Catharsis" "Imprisoned" "Origin" and "My Redemption". 8 out of 10.
