This is a review of another recording from Austria's Pungent Stench which kept a lot of the death metal and grindcore style of t heir previous releases while also adding in more catchy and memorable songs this time around and the album was originally released in 1991 and called "Been Caught Buttering" and the re-issue will be released in March by Dissonance Productions and also brings in a couple of bonus studio songs and a few live tracks from 1991.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with some death metal growls a few seconds later which are also very easy to understand while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats and grindcore elements as well as the solos being done in a very raw fashion.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some tracks also showing both the riffs and leads incorporating more groove which almost sounds like stoner rock which was not really a genre in those days, one track also brings in a brief use of acoustic guitars and on some tracks the bass guitars also bring in some leads and as the album progresses a brief use of 70's influences can also be heard and all of the live tracks where from their earlier material.
On this recording Pungent Stench kept mostly to a death metal and grindcore style while showing a great amount of progress, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover perversion, depravity, gore and sick humour themes.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Pungent Stench and while most long time fans have the original version I would recommend it to all death metal and grindcore fans that have not heard this classic. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shrunken And Mummified Bitch" "Brainpan Blues" "Sputter Supper" and "Splatterday Night Fever". 8/9 out of 10.
