Coffin Texts Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
R.C- We’re getting ready to start performing live and working on new material for an upcoming release.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how do you feel you have progressed as musicians with the new recording?
R.C- Well, as far as songs, I think we have increased our speed on tempos. This album was all Richard writing the music, the composition was all our inputs. I think this albums is a true representation of what’s Coffin Texts is all about, Heavy, Brutal and Blasting!!

3. What are some of the Egyptian topics that you have covered with the new release?
R.C- I get a lot of the topics from interesting subjects that have to do with life after death, contacting the astral world, Earthbound energies and ceremonies to enable souls to reach eternal bliss. “Final Transformation” is one of those songs, allowing the spirit to leaving the body and reaching it’s FINAL TRANFORMATION and reborn into the astral world. A lot of the stuff I touch base on is mostly leaning that way. As for topics being Egyptian, I do get concepts from their religion and belief system but also get my sources from other beliefs.

4. I know that the bands name came from the Egyptian Book Of The Dead, what is it that interested you about this name in order to name a band after that?
R.C-The name was used because to me, I believe the Egyptians used their Coffin Texts to help their dead reach places unknown to the living and the words to be spoken, after the manifestation of sound by speaking the words aloud. I write a lot of my lyrics with this in mind.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
R.C- Best Shows: Octoberfest @ CBGB’s New York w/ Cyptopsy 2000 / Milwaukee Metalfest 2000 / Ohio Deathfest 2000, too many to name.
Stage Performance: LOUD and OBESE

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
R.C- Not sure, most tours in U.S seem to be monopolized so we try to stay away from all that.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by death metal fans that have heard it so far?
R.C- Mostly positive. Were getting a good response from people all over the world. We’re very happy with the support and this is what drives us to continue with our quest for METAL BRUTALIZATION!!!

8. What is going on with the side projects these days?
R.C- Agent Steel/Masters of Metal: Album almost complete, Malice: Album completed (SPV records), Engrave: Working on new album for sept 2012, as for Possessed, I’m just sitting in for Tony Campos till further notice.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
R.C- Same direction, nowhere different. It is what it is, were not changing a damn thing!

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
R.C- Most of the bands influences come from early 90’s death/grind metal such as Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Terrorizer.

11. How would you describe your views on Egyptian Mythology, Magic and Occultism and are you also interested in any other paths?
R.C- I read up on a lot of these topics. There Magic and beliefs are similar to modern witchcraft and other beliefs, not entirely but certain aspects. My interest are in Exceling and protection of our own energy or light that lies within every living creature and human. Certain things in this world threaten our paths to bliss in the next (Drugs, Negative energies, Selfism, Earthbound attachments, etc…)

12.Outside of music, what are some of your interests?
R.C- Graphic arts, Helping other bands, teaching music, Booking Events.
I go under the name METAL CIRCUIT for Promotions.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
R.C- I want to thank on behalf of the band “BRINGER OF DEATH” for the interest and support. Horns up!!
