Zealotry are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays a very technical form of Finnish influenced death metal and this id a review of their 2014 album "The Charnel Expanse" which was released by Memento Mori.
"Avators Of Contempt pt. 1" which is also the first song on the album opens up with heavy guitar riffs that utilize some dark sounding melodies along with drums and you can hear the bass guitars in the background and then the growls and high pitched screams kick in and a few seconds later guitar solos and leads start coming in and out of the song.
"Avators Of Contempt pt. 2" begins with heavy guitar riffs and drums along with some growls a few seconds later as well as some guitar solos and leads which leads to the music going into a more technical direction and towards the end there is a brief use of blast beats being utilized.
"Avators Of Contempt pt. 3" opens up with heavy guitar riffs and drums along with some growls and a minute alter you can hear bass guitars in the background along with some clean parts and guitar leads which start making a powerful presence in the song.
"The Dysgenicists" starts up with heavy guitar riffs along with some drums bass guitars, growls and screams a few seconds later as well as some technical elements before adding in a small amount of blast beats before adding in guitar solos and leads.
"Blighted" kicks in with soft clean guitar playing before adding in melodic and technical sounding guitar solos and leads which leads up to heavy guitar riffing, drums and deep death metal growls and after awhile the music speeds up a bit and adds in blast beats that start coming in and out along with the guitar leads.
"Decaying Echoes" comes in with drums before adding in heavy guitar and bass riffs along with some growls and a minute later guitar solos and leads start coming in and out of the song as well as the guitar riffing utilizing more melody as well as bring blast beats in certain sections of the song.
"The Charnel Expanse" which is also the title track for the album begins with heavy and melodic sounding guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and a few seconds alter growls make their way into the song along with some guitar leads that come in and out of the song and the song closes with clean guitars.
"Codex Mysterium" is introduced by heavy and technical sounding guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and a minute later blast beats and guitar leads are added into certain sections of the song and the song is all instrumental with no vocals being present.
"Apex Predator" is brought in with heavy guitar riffs along with some drums a few seconds later before adding in death metal growls and melodic guitar riffing as well as some guitar leads and halfway through the song there is a brief use of blast beats being utilized before slowing down again.
"The Unmaking" which is also the last song on the album starts up with dark sounding synths and a few seconds alter heavy and melodic guitar riffs come into the song along with drums that utilize blast beats as well as some deep growls and halfway through the song there is a brief use of spoke word parts and a few minutes alter the synths take over before getting heavy again.
Song lyrics cover occultism and oppression themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording along with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Zealotry are a very great sounding Finnish style technical death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Avators Of Contempt pt. 1" "The Dysgenicists" "Codex Mysterium" and "The Unmaking". RECOMMENDED BUY.
