Coraxo are a band from Finland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very sci fi and electronic form of melodic death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Sol" which will be released in November by Sol Records.
Atmospheric sounding keyboards start off the album along with some elements of electronic music a few seconds later while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them as well as the music also having its symphonic moments and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it adds in a touch of black metal while the vocals are mostly death metal growls and screams along with riffs also using a great amount of melody and saxophones are also added into certain sections of the recording as well as the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Elements of prog rock can also be heard at times awhile guitar solos and leads when are utilized are done in a very melodic fashion along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts and as the album progresses a brief use of male and female clean vocals can be heard.
On this recording Coraxo goes for more of a sci-fi and electronic form of melodic death metal while also adding in prog rock and black metal influences to create something very different, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Science Fiction and Horror themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Coraxo and if you are a fan of melodic death metal and electronic music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Of Stars Reborn" "Retrogade" "Sacrifices Made" and "Spearhead". 8 out of 10.
