The Descent are a band from Spain that plays a very melodic form of death metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "The Coven Of Rats" which was released by Suspiria Records.
Tragic sounding keyboards start off the album along with some symphonic elements and after the intro the music goes into a heavier direction along with some death metal growls and the riffs also mix in a decent amount of melody and groove and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
When t he music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard and there are also some shouts and clean singing and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and they also mix the keyboards into the heavier parts of the tracks at times and some of the fast riffs also bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking and you can also hear a great amount of Sweden influences quite a bit throughout the recording while elements of electronic music and modern metal can also be heard as the album progresses.
The Descent plays a style of death metal that is very melodic while they also take the genre into more of a modern direction, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion The Descent are a very great sounding melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Warrior Within" "The Coven Of Rats" "Ten Times Stronger" and "Bitter Game". 8 out of 10.
