Symbolic are a band from Germany that plays a very melodic, technical and progressive form of death metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "Scarvest" which was re-issued by Twin Peak Records in 2013.
"Everlasting" begins with some melodic death metal guitar solos and drums which leads to some guitar rhythms kicking and after awhile deep growls make their presence known as well as some high pitched screams which combine with the growls before adding more guitar leads which kick in and out.
"The Greed" begins with some melodic guitar leads and drums before heading into a faster direction along with some growls and blast beats and after awhile high pitched screams start mixing in with the growls as well as switching back and forth between slow and fast parts along with some powerful bass guitars which also includes guitar solos coming in and out and as the song moves on the riffing gets more diverse while remaining heavy all at the same time.
"Achilles Sons" begins with some heavy guitar riffs, drums, growls and screams which leads to some melodies getting into the rhythm guitars and as the song moves on it starts getting slower and adding in some guitar solos which appear in and out of the music while also adding in some progressive metal elements and combining them with death metal.
"Scarvest" begins with some heavy technical death metal guitar riffs and powerful drums which leads to some growls and old school elements along with some screams which also lead to the guitars adding in some melody and as the song moves on it starts getting more faster with some blast beats and melodic, technical guitar leads while also switching back and forth between slow and fast parts.
"MySery" begins with some sound effects along with some acoustic guitar playing which utilizes both finger picking and full chords which leads to some symphonic elements and after awhilr there is a brief use of guitar leads with no vocals present on this song.
"Bittersweet" begins with some heavy guitar riffs, powerful bass and drums which leads to some growls which in return lead to some faster riffing and blast beats which also lead to the screams as well as switching back and forth between slow and fast parts as well as mixing in technical guitar leads coming in and out as well as some more powerful bass playing which also leads the song mixing in more variety while staying heavy at the same time.
"Down To Zero" begins with some heavy guitar riffs and powerful drumming which in return leads to some traditional style elements as well as setting the pace for some growls and screams and after awhile the music gets more heavy and diverse as well as mixing in some powerful bass and guitar solos/leads which come around a few times and mix with the riffs.
"7H8P7P5H7" begins with some heavy guitar riffs, bass and drums which set up the pace for some growls and screams which also lead to some technical and melodic guitar leads kicking in and out and as the song moves on it gets more diverse while remaining heavy and melodic and after a few minutes all of the musical instruments disappear and go into sound effects before heading into silent mode for a minute before adding in some samples and guitar riffs as well as electronic music elements.
Song lyrics cover philosophical and everyday themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Symbolic are a very great sounding technical and melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Everlasting" "Achilles Sons" and "Down To Zero". RECOMMENDED BUY.
