Exhumation are a band from Russia that plays a very melodic form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 ep "Bread Buttered On Both Sides".
A very melodic metal sound starts off the ep along with some high pitched screams and the music goes into a mid 90's melodic Swedish death metal direction and you can also hear a great amount of solos and leads in the music and the band sticks to mostly a slow to mid paced direction.
As the ep progresses you can hear a decent amount of thrash metal influences being mixed into the bands musical sound and all of the musical instruments are very easy to hear on this recording and it times the guitar leads also have a very depressive and melancholic feeling to them and the band also ignore's all of the modern trends that have watered down this genre over the years .
Exhumation plays a very old school style of Swedish style death metal that is more in the earlier style of this genre with some of the tracks reminding me of At the Gates, In Flames Or Dark Tranquility before all 3 of those bands went into a more mainstream direction, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Exhumation are a very great sounding melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blood thirst" and "Windwalker". 8 out of 10.
