Ataxia are a band from Ontario, Canada that plays a very experimental, technical and brutal form of slam death metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Calignious".
Robotic voices and a sci fi atmosphere start off the album before going into more of a brutal and technical death metal direction that incorporates a great amount of blast beats as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and after awhile guttural growls and slam death metal elements are added onto the recording.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some high pitched screams being added into certain sections of the recording and you can hear a lot of progressive and experimental elements being added into the tracks on a regular basis and some of the tracks also add in atmospheric elements and when solos and leads are utilized they add more melody as well as remaining true to a technical death metal sound while some of the alter tracks bring in deathcore style breakdowns and towards the end one of the tracks also brings in a brief use of clean playing.
Ataxia plays a style of death metal that is very brutal, experimental and technical and also adds in elements of slam and deathcore to create some music that is very extreme and modern at the same time, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover gore, violence and science fiction themes.
In my opinion Ataxia are a very decent sounding experimental, technical and brutal death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Scar Remains" "Manifested" "Imposter" and "Unbalanced". 7/5 out of 10.
