DistortHead are a band from Canada that plays a melodic mixture of death metal and metalcore and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Invasive Species" which will be released in October.
A very epic sounding intro starts off the album bringing in the feeling of a fantasy movie and after the intro the music starts going for more of a metalcore musical direction along with some aggressive vocals. shouts, screams, and melody which is used both in the riffs and leads and after awhile death metal growls start becoming a part of the bands musical sound, all of the musical instruments sound very powerful and the band also bring s in spoken word samples at times.
The solos and leads the band uses display a great amount of talent and skill and at times clean singing can be heard in certain sections of the recording and most of the music sticks to a slow to mid paced musical direction and you can also hear a good amount of groove and modern metal influences in the bands musical style and halfway through the album synths are brought in briefly on one of the tracks before returning back to a heavier sound as well as bringing in a small amount of blast beats.
DistortHead plays a very melodic style of metalcore that they mix in with the heaviness of death metal and while there is not much in the way of originality I still feel this band is very good fro what they are trying to accomplish, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover real life and anti religion themes.
In my opinion Distortedhead are a very decent sounding mixture of melodic death metal and metalcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Invasive Species" "Erupting Skies" and "Distort Reality". 7/5 out of 10.
