Expain are a band from Vancouver, B.C, Canada that plays a melodic, technical and progressive mixture of death and thrash metal and this is a review of t heir self released 2017 ep "Pinching Nerves".
Melodic and technical guitar leads start off the ep along with some riffs that are heavy and use a great amount of melody and after awhile growls, screams and blast beats are added onto t he recording along with some elements of thrash and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while melodic vocals are also used at times and when clean playing is utilized they add prog and jazz elements to the recording and one track also brings in session work form Dan Mongrian of Voivod and Martyr while another song brings in acoustic guitars.
Expain plays a musical style that takes melodic and technical death metal and mixes it with some thrash, prog and jazz elements to create something different, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Expain are a very great sounding melodic and progressive mixture of death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Witch Is Dead" and "Torch Formula". 8 out of 10.
