Tides Of Kharon are a band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that plays a very melodic form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 ep "Coins Upon Our Eyes" which will be released on July 28th.
Drums beats along with some heavy and melodic riffing starts off the ep along with a great amount of Swedish influences and after awhile death metal growls and screams are added onto the recording along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while back up shouts are also used at times and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they also stick to a very melodic style and blast beats can also be heard during the faster sections of the songs and there is also a brief use of clean playing.
Tides Of Kharon plays a style of melodic death metal that is very heavily rooted in the Swedish tradition, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover Greek Mythology themes.
In my opinion Tides Of Kharon are a very great sounding melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Winter War" and "Cerberus In Slumber". 8 out of 10.
