Empire Of the Scourged are a band from the Netherlands that plays an avant garde and industrial form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Transcend Into Oblivion".
The ep starts out with some atmospheric sounds before elements of noise are added in which leads up to some heavy guitar riffs, drums and a mixture of growls and screams which also bring a black metal feeling to the recording and then t he music goes into a more brutal and avant garde direction along with some synths and spoken word samples while also utilizing some slower parts which also leads up to clean singing becoming a part of the mix.
As the ep progresses it starts adding in more industrial influences while also enhancing the brutality and avant garde elements as well as adding in melody and they also have a very dark sound to them at times and they utilize a variety of many different musical styles on these songs while also remaining brutal all at the same time and on the third song the bass guitars start getting even more powerful sounding and on the 4th song there is a brief use of female vocals.
Empire of The Scourged bring a very original sound to the 5 songs that are displayed on the ep they can play some of the most brutal sounding death metal while also having melody, black metal influences which they also mix with avant garde and industrial to create a sound only they can call their own.
Song lyrics cover death, indifference and the end of the world themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this ep.
In my opinion Empire of the Scourged are a very great sounding avant garde, industrial death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hollow Machinations Of The Foul Spirited" and "A Scarred Horizon". 8 out of 10.
