This is a review of a split album between Sweden's Gluttony and Sordid Flesh which will be released in April by Vic Records and we will start off the review with Gluttony a band that plays a very old school form of death metal and their side contains 2 new songs and their 2012 demo "Coffinborn".
Their side of the split starts out with a heavy guitar sound and death metal growls a few seconds later and after awhile the music speeds up along with a great amount of blast beats and melodic riffing and the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's Swedish style and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
High pitched screams can also be heard in some parts of their songs and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also sound like they could of easily been recorded and released 20 years ago and their side of the split always remains heavy and they close with a cover of Rolling Stone's "Paint It Black", the production on their side of the split sounds very old school while the lyrics cover zombies and gore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gluttony and if you are a fan of old school death metal, you should check out their side of t he split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Glory To The Rope" and "Coffinborn".
Next up is Sordid Flesh a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays an old school form of death metal with some elements of thrash and black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very heavy 90's style death metal sound along with some blast beats and thrash style leads and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on their side of the recording and the vocals also use a great mixture of both screams and growls.
You can also hear melodies in the guitar riffing while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear a touch of black metal in t he bands musical style and there side of the split also always sticks to a very heavy and old school style and they close their side of the split with a cover of Judas priest's "Ram It Down", the production on t heir side of the split sounds very old school while the lyrics cover anti religion, the undead and gore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sordid Flesh and if you are a fan of old school death metal with a touch of thrash and black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lowest Of the Low" and "Sordid Flesh".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of death metal. 8 out of 10.
