Cryptopsy have returned with a new recording that continues the brutal and technical death metal sound that they are known for and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "The Book Of Suffering - Tome 1".
Spoken word samples start off the ep before going into a very fast and brutal death metal direction that also utilizes a great amount of blast beats as well as some growling vocals and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and there is also a great amount of technical elements.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the vocals also get very guttural at times while the riffs also bring in a small amount of melody and the whole ep and there is also a brief use of sound effects that give the music the atmosphere of a modern horror film and the solos and leads also remain true to a very technical style of playing and the last track brings in a guttural approach to vocals.
Cryptopsy creates another recording that is very brutal and technical while also moving with the times and showing they can still keep up with the younger bands that they have influenced, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark, violent and gore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cryptopsy and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Knife, the Head And What Remains" and "Framed By Blood". 8 out of 10.
