Dark Oath are a band from Portugal that plays a very melodic and symphonic form of death metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "When Fire Engulfs The Earth" which was released by WormHoleDeath Records.
A very dark and epic sounding keyboard starts off the album along with a variety of many different keys that also gives the music a classical music feeling and after a minute the music speeds up adds in blast beats, high pitched screams and clean singing pagan shouts as well as a great amount of melody.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while death metal growls can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they remain true to a melodic musical direction and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length. and as the album progresses more technical and modern metal elements are added into the songs.
Dark Oath plays a style of death metal that is very epic, melodic and symphonic sounding while also bringing in a touch of folk music, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Viking Battles, Norse Mythology and History.
In my opinion Dark Oath are a very great sounding symphonic and melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Tree Of Life" "Thousand Beasts" "Vengeful Gods" and "Brother's Fall". 8 out of 10.
