1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
-We are currently working on a four song E.P. which will hopefully be finished and released by this spring, just in time for some regional Northwest U.S. tours in the works. We are also already writing new material for our next full album, are in discussions with other companies to expand what "The Desolate" is and will be, and we hope to start expanding our merchandise line for the fans. This is all very exciting for all of us!
2.You had a new album come out in September, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
- The best way to describe it would be that it is simply thrashy death metal...IN SPACE! Hahaha To us, this is our best sounding album, material, and representation of the band to-date.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
- The lyrics mostly center around philosophical and science fiction themes with a high fantasy elements. "The Great Departure" album was our first attempt at writing a concept album and we quite enjoyed it.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'The Desolate'?
- The year was 1819. It was a thunderous blizzard in July... the Arctic Circle. Death's icy fingers clenched tighter with every breath. Just kidding, we thought it was alright. Hahaha
5.Originally the band was from Iowa but now have re-located to Washington State, what was the decision behind the move?
- Strategy. It was a tactical decision for being in a bigger metropolitan area with better access for touring. Also...legal weed. Hahaha
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
- We had the privilege and opportunity to play with Revocation and Six Feet Under in Des Moines Iowa and that was an absolute blast. We also did a show with The Faceless in Iowa City that was probably the biggest crowd we've played to up to now. We played a great number of great local bar, basement, house, venue, and barn shows with many friends and bands all over Iowa and now all over the northwest as well. Our stage performance is best described as being fun and energetic.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
- We currently have a show booked March 4th with Children of Bodom at Peter's Room at the Roseland Ballroom in Portland, OR. We're very excited for that opportunity. We have another couple shows coming up on January 29th with Arachnid at the Ash Street in Portland, OR, and with Dead Nexus at the Tardis Room, also in Portland. We are looking to start touring this coming spring more regionally and then maybe venture a little farther in the summer. We always have shows because we love playing them!
8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
- We're winging it.
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death and thrash metal?
- Extremely positive. We've had the opportunity to tour and play shows in 12 states, have been played on many international online radio stations including; Metal Devastation Radio with Vox Sacrilage, and Metal Messiah Radio based in Lebanon by Lady Death (Paula Wehbe). We are starting to grow as a band, as a name, and it's all because of the great feedback and reception we are getting from the new album.
10.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects?
- No.
11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
- Keeping it fast and heavy.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an infleunce on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
- Our influences come from anything and everything. From thrash and death metal, to classical and jazz. Just to a name a few of what we've been listening to lately; Shawn Lane, Jeff Beck, Pomegranate Tiger, Chemical Brothers, For Today, All Shall Perish, Jeff Loomis, Cattle Decapitation, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Revocation.
13.What are some of your non musical interests?
- Art, video games, professional wrestling, nature, television, movies, learning... aliens.
