In Somnia are a band from Germany that plays a very modern and symphonic form of melodic death metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Withered-Frozen-Perished" which was released by 7hard Records.
A very dark sounding synth starts off the album bringing in elements of electronic music which also mixes in with a more heavy sound a few seconds later along with some aggressive screaming vocals and the music also brings in a more modern style of metal and clean singing can also be heard at times.
When solos and leads are utilized they give the songs more of a melodic death metal feeling and spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the influence of prog metal can also be heard in the songs and as the album progresses the songs start bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a small amount of blast beats while other tracks also start utilizing more symphonic and industrial elements and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
In Somnia plays a musical style that takes melodic death and modern metal and mixes it with some symphonic, prog and industrial elements to create a style of their own, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark and real life themes.
In my opinion In Somnia are a very great sounding modern, melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Halo" "First Aid" and "Shadow Of Conscience". 8 out of 10.
